The Oxford Guide to Careers 2021
Design and art direction for Oxford University Careers Service's key annual publication
The Oxford Guide to Careers is Oxford University Careers Service's flagship annual publication. The substantial publication, over 140 pages in length, is made available to students throughout Oxford University, and helps them to gain insights into careers in a variety of sectors, offers application tips and methods to build employability skills, and includes in-depth sector-based careers advice, advertising and alumni profiles.
The Careers Service asked me to redesign the Guide for this 2021 edition. I worked closely with their team to develop and art direct a new look and feel for the Guide, including typography aiming to make the content as clear and readable as possible, a consistent, attractive and flexible layout, and navigation/wayfinding systems to make the publication's content as accessible as possible. I also advised on the presentation and handling of display and listing advertising, and – as the publication is distributed digitally for this edition – ensured that the final artwork fulfilled accessibility guidelines and was suitable for display and use within online 'magazine reader' tools.
The Careers Service's Director Jonathan Black describes the final product as “Really outstanding in comprehensiveness, approach, design and accessibility”.
