Project management methodology visualisations
Information design for the University of Oxford's IT Services department
IT Services provides IT resources, skills, services and advice across the whole of the University of Oxford.
Having worked with IT Services on previous projects, including their Annual Report, I was asked to create visualisations of their new project management methodology. As part of their introducing this new methodology across the department, they felt it was vital to have easily understandable, attractive diagrams to explain and provide references for the new approach.
I spent time with department members to understand their project management approach, and to provide guidance on how best to represent it. The methodology is complex and multi-faceted, and refers not only to different types of projects, but to project timescales, stages, checkpoints and documentation. The final visualisation documents provided to IT Services use recognisable flowchart/data visualisation symbols within a series of diagrams, presenting the complex-yet-specific flow requirements in a simple, attractive way.
